My name is Mary-Kei and I was born in Japan and brought up in England mainly. I have worked as a teacher, a mosaic artist and a stylist. My training is in Fashion and Textiles but my interests are varied. I have a love of colour, pattern and texture as well as ceramics, fabrics and illustration.
I have been working as a props and wardrobe stylist in Dubai for the last five years. Recently I have increasingly found food styling more and more appealing. I have always had a deep interest in food, cooking it, arranging it, eating it and sampling different flavours from around the world. I find it ties in all the elements that interest me, colour, composition and culinary delights! Follow my journey into the world of food styling and food photography!
The recipe sounds easy and delicious. Please post more. The arrangements above are very impressive!

Fantastic. Looks yummy.
Hi Mary-Kei – First of, I love your portfolio, splendid (and scrumptious) work!
A fellow blogger in Dubai, Sally Prosser (www.mycustardpie.com) shared your blog with me, and was super excited to see someone out there who’s so into food styling and photography! I started a food blog after moving back to Dubai in Feb/March this year (www.iliveinafryingpan.com), and have formed a tiny informal group of food bloggers that’s already met up twice since Sept. Would love to have you join if you’re interested, so do let me know if you’re up for it. It’s just a fun way to connect with other bloggers and share food ideas / skills (ironically, Sally and I are meeting up to talk cameras for food photography today!)
Look forward to checking out your site in the months to come!
Hi there, I just discovered your blog while googling for food styling workshops in dubai! great place here, would love to connect, i am food blogger from dubai as well
Dear Mary-Kei,
I work for Friday, a weekly Dubai-based magazine, part of the English newspaper, Gulf News. (www.gulfnews.com).
I wrote a feature on international food bloggers a few months ago. (See attachment.) After which Dubai-based blogger, Ruth of http://bonappetitreview.blogspot.com, dropped us a line saying how disappointed she was that I hadn’t “researched local food blogs to make the article community-specific”.
We took her seriously, and would like to feature local bloggers.
Would you be interested in being profiled?
Please reply.
